National Society of Black Engineers
The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) was founded at Purdue University in 1975 by what is now known as the "Chicago Six." Started because of a disparity in retention rates among black engineers across campuses across the country, NSBE continues to flourish in 2009, with over 30,000 members. The mission of the National Society of Black Engineers is to increase the number of black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community.
