It’s impossible to discuss the evolution of peer-to-peer fundraising without a thoughtful look back at the history of the industry. In the early days, we talked about “A-Thon Fundraising” to describe running, walking, and cycling programs. An industry group launched in 2007 was called the “Run Walk Ride Fundraising Council.” When this benchmark study was first launched a few years later, we were early adopters, using the term “peer-to-peer fundraising” instead of “a-thon fundraising.”
