HOW TO PUT BENEFICIARIES FIRST, WITHOUT THROWING DONORS OUT WITH THE BATHWATER

Last week was a good one for fundraising ethics with two rather big developments. We had the new iteration of the International Statement on Ethical Principles In Fundraising, which I think is a big improvement on the last version (but a conversation for a different time). And we also had the launch of NCVO’s new Charity Code of Ethics a code that aims to do for the charity sector what the Nolan Principles do for the public sphere. I couldn’t be more delighted that at the very heart of the draft NCVO code (which is out for consultation until September 26) is the principle that charities ought to put beneficiaries first. The draft code stipulates that the “interests of the people [charities] work for should be at the heart of everything they do”.

Going Virtual: Tips For Planning An Effective Virtual Nonprofit Fundraiser

Article | July 12, 2022

Agile nonprofits are turning to virtual fundraisers to fill the fundraising gap. Limiting public gatherings to fewer than ten people has forced many nonprofits to postpone or cancel their annual events, which is a major problem for so many organizations that rely on spring fundraising season to generate a significant portion of their annual revenue. A virtual event is any organized meet-up that takes place online rather than in a physical location. They can range from one-on-one meetings to large-scale events with thousands of attendees. How to Drive User-Generated Content for Your Nonprofit

Article | July 14, 2022

Eighty-six percent of millennials consider user-generated content as a good gauge of a brand’s overall quality. User-generated content comes from unpaid fans of an organization who share their experiences with that brand through their social media platforms, and can include a variety of content, like videos, photos, tweets, blogs, and reviews. This type of content also serves an organic way for supporters to promote your nonprofit to one another. It’s key to increasing your message’s reach, as 92% of consumers say they trust recommendations from other consumers, even those they don’t know, more than content directly from a brand.

4 Actions Responsive Nonprofits are Taking to Ensure Growth in 2020 and Beyond

Article | June 8, 2020

Barbara O’Reilly was recently featured on our Responsive Fundraising Podcast, where she discussed the three stages that follow an unexpected world event. First, the response phase, where we each find a way to contain the negative impact of the change. Next, comes the recovery phase, in which we all work together to find a way forward. Lastly, the resilience phase, in which we have recovered and emerge better than before. From the standpoint of COVID-19, we all have navigated the response phase, which triggered a far-reaching economic tremor. It’s fair to say that we currently live in the recovery phase, and probably will for quite a while. But even now, as we recover, our focus should be on the next phase: resilience. Of course, the resilience phase will look differently for everyone, and it is hard to predict exactly what it will look like for your nonprofit. However, there are ways for you to ensure that the work you do now will increase your annual revenue and improve donor retention while you recover and build resilience. Here’s how responsive fundraising can make that easier.
