'The Shed' Receives $27.5 Million From Jonathan and Lizzie Tisch

The Shed, a new nonprofit cultural center located in the mixed-use Hudson Yards area on Manhattan's far west side, has announced a $27.5 million gift from Jonathan M. and Lizzie Tisch. The gift from the center's board vice chair and his wife will help fund construction of the building — which is nearly complete — and includes a $10 million challenge grant for a newly created Commissioning Fund, an initiative to support the commissioning of new work for the center. In recognition of the gift, a 9,500-square-foot skylit event and artist rehearsal space on the building's top floor will be named the Lizzie and Jonathan Tisch Skylights, while a lab for artistic development and experimentation, also on the top floor, will be named Tisch Lab.
