Richmond City Council allocates CDBG funds to local nonprofits

Richmond will receive $19,468 in Community Development Block Grant funds this year, not nearly as much as past years, but officials will still share the wealth. City Manager Jon Moore explained the breakdown in dollars at a city council meeting and how the funds are allowed to be allocated by officials. He said $4,867 must be used for public service projects, which includes $300 already set aside for the county chore service program, leaving the city with $4,567 to use. The amount allotted for non-public service projects is $14,601. In this case, the city will upgrade the doors at city hall. In the past, city officials have used the funds for ADA ramps in town. The new doors would be automatic doors, which could assist seniors or people in wheelchairs who visit the city offices, Moore said.
