Marshall County Fiscal Court approves budget that includes $125,000 for nonprofit grants

The Marshall County Fiscal approved a balanced budget Monday evening that included $125,000 in grant money for nonprofits, which is $75,000 more than what the judge executive initially proposed. The budget Judge Executive Kevin Neal originally proposed for the upcoming fiscal year would have allocated $50,000 to grants for nonprofits. That’s a steep drop from the $200,000 that was distributed among a dozen nonprofits for the current fiscal year. Neal told Local 6 in a previous interview that the state’s pension crisis made the cut necessary. During Monday evening’s fiscal court meeting, Neal told people with various nonprofits in attendance that they need to learn to raise their own money, instead of relying on the county government. Neal mentioned training sessions that the county had paid for to teach the nonprofits about fundraising.
