Local park conservancy to get $2M from Kinder Foundation, H-E-B, endowment

The Emancipation Park Conservancy announced Jan. 9 that the Kinder Foundation, San Antonio-based H-E-B Grocery Co. and the Houston Endowment have committed a combined $2 million to the conservancy. The Kinder Foundation, created by Houston billionaire Rich Kinder and his wife, Nancy, will provide a multiyear $750,000 grant. The foundation also committed to supporting an additional $250,000 challenge grant should the Emancipation Park Conservancy secure an equivalent amount of matching funds during the same fiscal year. During the conservancy's Jan. 9 press conference, Winell Herron, H-E-B group vice president of diversity and inclusion, immediately announced her company accepted the challenge.
