Kellogg Expands Matching Program to Baobá Fund for Racial Equity

The W.K. Kellogg Foundation has announced an expansion of its philanthropic match to the Baobá Fund for Racial Equity in Brazil. WKKF will begin matching Brazilian donor contributions to the fund on a three-to-one basis and international donations on a two-to-one basis, with half going to an endowment and the other half supporting programming. Until recently, the foundation was offering a one-to-one match for Brazilian donations to the endowment, up to $25 million.
Kellogg has partnered with the Baobá Fund since its inception in 2011. Key to the relationship was the establishment of an endowment to provide dedicated resources that could be used for promoting the full inclusion of Afro-descendant populations - which represent more than half the country's population - into society.
The decision to increase the match was based on the fund's ability to provide continued local philanthropic leadership during a time when the momentum behind efforts to advance racial equity for all Brazilians - spurred in part by the community and global responses to the recent assassination of Afro-Brazilian councilwoman and human rights activist Marielle Franco - is building.
