Jackson EMC awards grants to six nonprofits that serve Gwinnett residents

Six nonprofits that serve Gwinnett residents are splitting $55,050 dollars in grant funds that were recently awarded by the Jackson EMC Foundation’s Board of Directors. The money is part of a larger pot of $103,850 that the board awarded to nonprofits in the communities that Jackson EMC serves. The grant awards are funded by Operation Round Up Program, which lets EMC’s customers round up their electric bill to the next dollar. The “spare change,” as Jackson EMC officials call it, is used to support programs run by local nonprofits to benefit their communities. Atlanta-based Camp Twin Lakes and Suwanee-based Spectrum Autism Support Group each received $15,000 grants while Watkinsville-based Extra Special People received a $10,000 grant. Lawrenceville-based The Path Project received $6,550 while Atlanta-based FOCUS, also known as Families of Children Under Stress, received $6,000. Camp To Belong in Canton received $2,5000.
