Hospice donates retired computer desktops to nonprofits

Hospice of Humboldt donated approximately 20 retired hard drives, monitors and keyboards to two other local nonprofit organizations — Food for People and the Jefferson Park Community Center. In keeping with its hardware replacement policy, Hospice gradually switched out all of the desktops computers used by both administrative and clinical staff. Rather than securely destroying the hard disk drives and discarding all the equipment as e-waste, Hospice management and the IT department took the time to not only securely erase information but also to reimage, test, and stage the desktop computers for donation. Joanna Cloutier, IT administrator, has been with Hospice of Humboldt since 2009. “Wherever possible, Hospice makes a conscious effort to foster a culture of reusing and recycling.  We knew that these machines could be of further use to another organization and are happy to see them all find new homes,” she said.
