Great Grant Giveaway benefits 5 nonprofits

Albuquerque’s International District, the most ethnically diverse area in the city, is the main beneficiary of the seventh annual Great Grant Giveaway. Five nonprofit organizations will share $151,860 donated by the giveaway, which is sponsored by the Albuquerque Community Foundation. This year’s theme was “Tapestry: A City Woven Together.” International District Economic Development Center, a workspace for entrepreneurs and small-business owners living in the district. Its $40,825 grant will help fund business development workshops, training, access to capital and marketing support. Project Feed the Hood, an education, food and community gardening initiative that partners with International District schools, was granted $39,160. It offers youths the opportunity to farm in school gardens, volunteer at a community garden near the Albuquerque airport and earn paid agricultural internships in the South Valley.
