Give Local 757 raises a record $858,000 in 24 hours

Give Local 757 raised more than $858,000 this year — the most since the 24-hour online fundraising event started in 2014. “We broke all previous records,” Peninsula Community Foundation philanthropy director Tammy Flynn said of the May 14 event. This year, personal fundraising campaigns for nonprofits proved popular, she said. The platform was tested last year and rolled out this year with prize incentives. The event raised about 7% more than last year’s $800,000 and brought in more than four times the $190,000 it collected the first year, she said. “It’s much more meaningful when donors reach out to (raise money) and tell their stories about why they support an organization,” Flynn said. “It seems to resonate much more with new donors.” Allowing donations to be scheduled in advance to qualify for giving day prizes fueled the increase, Flynn said. About 220 nonprofits participated, which was on par with last year.
