CompTIA, a nonprofit association for the information technology (IT) industry and workforce, recently announced about around 2000 people from the underrepresented community in technology would be given training to work as technical support and help desk professionals in collaboration with IBM SkillsBuild as a part of CompTIA's new workforce development program.
The IBM SkillsBuild is a free education program that aims at underrepresented communities in technology and aids adult learners, high school and university students, and faculty in accessing career opportunities and acquiring valuable new skills. The program consists of an online platform supplemented by individualized practical learning experiences delivered in collaboration with a global network of partners.
Additionally, the new program will deliver training focusing on durable skills such as collaboration, critical thinking, leadership, and other professional proficiencies that enhance an individual's likelihood of success in addition to technical training, including CompTIA A+ courses. Collaboration with employers and other private and government organizations will be a key part of the new program. This will help create and expand career development options and create a robust and sustainable pipeline of skilled workers. The program opens many possibilities for public and private funding to work together.
Mark Plunkett, Senior Vice President of Global Solutions and Services with CompTIA, said, "This program supports CompTIA's mission of unlocking the potential of tech job seekers from all communities," He also said, "CompTIA has a long-standing and ongoing commitment to building a robust tech workforce by helping individuals grow in confidence and unlock their potential to work in tech."
