Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance
Vaccination is one of the most effective public health interventions in history, saving millions of lives every year and helping to wipe out some of the world’s deadliest diseases. Despite this, 1.5 million children under five lose their lives to vaccine-preventable diseases every year. Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, brings together the public and private sectors with the shared goal of creating equal access to new and underused vaccines for children living in the poorest countries. Since its inception in 2000, Gavi has helped prevent more than nine million deaths in developing countries and contributed to the immunisation of nearly 640 million children.
