Claire’s Place Foundation, a non-profit organization providing support to children and families affected by cystic fibrosis (CF), is pleased to announce that it has given $875,000 in Extended Hospital Stay Grants to families and individuals with CF since it’s 2011 founding. To reach $1,000,000 in grants given, the foundation has launched a fundraising campaign, #CPFoneinamillion, to support families during this difficult time.
“My daughter Claire is beaming down on us as we approach the incredible milestone of granting one million dollars in Extended Hospital Stay Grants since our founding, As of today, we are $125,000 away from our goal. I know with your help, we can reach it. With skyrocketing costs for everything from groceries to gas, the CF community needs us more than ever, The average yearly medical cost per CF patient is $43,000 and the average additional yearly cost of medications per patient is $25,000. Families are pouring their hearts into caring for their children. They go to bed at night worrying about their kids' health as well as paying bills. Please consider making your end of year tax-deductible donation to our #CPFoneinamillion campaign. Let’s make life a little easier for these hard working families.”
-Claire’s Place Foundation Executive Director Melissa Yeager.
CF is a demanding disease requiring a lot of money, time and care. For example, one of the foundation’s grant recipients has five children, three of which have CF. This hard-working family has missed job income due to extended hospital stays for their children. Claire’s Place awarded the family two grants to pay for needed car repairs and their mortgage.
“CF is a genetically transmitted condition and presents with a spectrum of symptoms that may not be diagnosed at birth, Diagnosing a child with CF later in their life may lead to multiple children having CF in one family, as the parents are not aware that they carry the CF gene. This clearly adds to a financial burden.”
-Claire’s Place Board Member Dr. Richard K. Mathis.
The Claire’s Place Extended Hospital Stay Fund provides grants to families and individuals that are experiencing a hospital stay of at least 14 consecutive days. The grants cover essential expenses such as rent, mortgage and household bills, so that they can focus on health.
My teenage daughters, Kendall and Karyn, are so moved by the power and resilience that Claire had and the special bond a mother has with her daughter, as am I, said Mara Fortin, a Claire's Place supporter. Through Claire’s Place, Claire’s spirit continues to make a daily impact on the lives of others. My daughters and I are honored to support this amazing foundation and encourage others to step up. In fact, we will match all donations up to $75,000, dollar for dollar!
