Arbor Day Foundation and MetLife Foundation to Enable Tree Planting

On February 28, 2023, MetLife Foundation shared that it will support Arbor Day Foundation's tree-planting initiatives in Europe's forests and communities with the greatest need over the next two years. Over 100,000 trees will be planted in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Ireland, Turkey, and the United Kingdom starting in 2023. The partnership intends to increase the climate change resilience of these regions.

The Arbor Day Foundation has helped plant almost 500 million trees in forests and communities worldwide over the past 50 years. It leverages partnerships worldwide to facilitate projects that enable businesses of all sizes to achieve their sustainability objectives through quantifiable, meaningful work with trees and forests. The Foundation recently announced a plan to grow 500 million trees by June 2027 in the forests and communities that require them the most.

MetLife Foundation has collaborated with the Arbor Day Foundation on various tree stewardship projects since 2017, including tree distribution campaigns for communities, reforestation initiatives in national and state forests, and urban planting events with MetLife volunteers around the globe.

This work was guided by the principles outlined in the MetLife Foundation's 10-year, $10 million pledge to environmental causes. It is aligned with its resilient communities portfolio, which supports projects positively impacting environmental causes. Together with the Arbor Day Foundation, MetLife Foundation has assisted efforts to plant and distribute nearly 450,000 trees to date.

Dan Lambe, CEO of Arbor Day Foundation, shared, "The climate crisis is a shared global problem, one that's going to take a strategic, collective effort to solve." He added, "The world needs trees now more than ever, and organizations like MetLife Foundation are stepping up alongside other sustainability leaders in the public and private sector to turn conversations into meaningful action."
